Severe Weather Policy
Important: NSA prioritizes player safety above all else. Our severe weather policy outlines procedures for lightning, extreme heat, and other hazardous conditions. All coaches, officials, and parents should familiarize themselves with these guidelines.
Lightning Safety
When thunder roars, go indoors. All outdoor activities must be suspended at the first sound of thunder or flash of lightning. A 30-minute waiting period begins after the last thunder or lightning before play can resume.
Heat Guidelines
When the humidex reaches 35°C, consider postponing games. At 40°C or above, all outdoor activities are cancelled. Mandatory water breaks every 15 minutes when humidex exceeds 30°C.
Air Quality
Activities should be modified when the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) exceeds 7. Above 10, all outdoor activities are cancelled. Sensitive individuals should avoid outdoor activity above 4.
Remember: When in doubt, err on the side of caution. No game is worth risking player safety. Coaches and officials have the authority and responsibility to postpone or cancel activities due to weather concerns.
